Over many years Robinson Structures have worked closely with the Chambers Group to complete a number of projects at their various depots in Surrey and Hampshire.
Robinsons were recently appointed to design and construct a large side extension to the MRF comprising a 40-metre clear span, curved roof structure. Due to the raking site boundary and in order to maximise space, the rear gable end of the building was tapered by 75 degrees running parallel with the site boundary. In addition to the steel frame, Robinson’s scope of works was to cast foundations and to undertake the design, supply and installation of the complete building envelope consisting of roofing, cladding and pre-cast concrete wall panels. Additional investment by the Chambers Group included an end extension waste reception building.
This building was designed with a 14-metre clear opening to one side of the building for HGV and machinery access and with 180mm thick pre-cast concrete wall panels stacked 7-metres high.
Site constraints necessitated the demolition of the existing office block. After discussions and negotiations, Robinsons were appointed as principal contractor for the prestigious new office building. The works carried out included everything from piled foundations to the building envelope and internal fit out works. The project also required increasing the length and eaves height of the existing vehicle workshop building which backs on to the new office. Increasing the roof height of the workshop was achieved by installing small steel posts to the top of existing rafters to carry a new rafter line enabling new roof purlins to be fitted. This enabled new higher doors to be fitted, together with additional doors for the vehicle service area.
Chambers Waste Management was established in 1969 and since then the Chambers Group has evolved into an integrated recycling, waste management and aggregates business, servicing a wide range of commercial and domestic customers.
“We have employed Robinsons over many years to carry out various projects and always found them to be extremely efficient and user friendly. It is important for us to have a company that will work with us with a high regard for health, safety and quality, especially when all our projects are carried out in close proximity to our busy operations.”
