Engineers of the future from Derby University visit our factory and site

In recent weeks we have been collaborating with the Civil Engineering, Construction Management and Architecture CAD/BIM departments at @DerbyUni.

We hosted fifteen construction engineering students at our office and factory to take a look at our project for GF Tomlinson for @ATL_Derby at Foston. The students were able to see the journey of the project from 3D Detailing through to Fabrication in our new, bespoke Production Facility.

Following on from this, @DerbyUni decided they wanted to see the final part of the project’s journey and visit the site. They were accompanied by our experienced managers who explained the construction process to the students.

One of our bright young prospects, Alex, also accompanied the group. Alex joined us two years ago seeing many sides of the business in a short space of time. He is currently working in Production Control and CNC Programming and will be enrolling on to his BEng in Civil Engineering later this year. Robinson Structures have acknowledged Alex’s hard work and talent and will be investing in the future.

@DerbyUni is one of the few locations in the Midlands that are offering degree apprenticeships in Civil Engineering that are fully funded by the government under the 2017 levy scheme. These schemes have great benefits because you can earn while you learn and not have a massive student debt and probably get better paid jobs earlier.
